Ideas for Connecting With Students

Since the majority of our scholars go to schools outside of the immediate area, contact during the semester is often virtual. Scholars will feel more comfortable reaching out and responding during the school year, if they have spent some quality time with you over the summer.

If your scholar is slow to open up over coffee or a meal, change up your plans. Here are some suggestions for connecting with your mentee as the summer winds down:

Get Outside!

Explore Culture!

Share an interest!

  • Go fishing, play a sport, walk your dogs
  • Invite your mentee over to cook a favorite recipe
  • Give them a tour of your work place
